About Down Down is a natural substance and is the soft pumule found under the breast of geese and ducks. This pumule or cluster allows theses birds to withstand the coldest of weather. The highest quality white goose down comes from birds that are raised in colder climates and the size of the birds. Since down is a by-product of the food industry and the Unites States doesn't eat many geese or ducks, most of the down is imported from either Europe or the Orient. Scandia down only uses down from Europe because it is more mature, larger, better lofting, and more fully developed than the down originating in the Orient. This high quality goose down is the preferred choice in white bedding for its clean appearance and also for its lightweight and insulation properties. Although about 30% of the product is lost because of this rigorous process, Scandia Down insists upon this cleaning process so you can be assured that you will receive the highest quality product available. Random tests have shown that Scandia's product is 300% cleaner than the U.S. specifications.
